Creative storyteller blending history, design, and hands-on craft.

About ME

Hi, I'm Cara Emling, a senior in college based in Atlanta, GA with a passion for crafting, storytelling, and hands-on design. My background is rooted in creative work — from editing and visual storytelling to physically building pieces that bring characters to life.

For my capstone, I designed and created a prop sword for a fictional Viking queen, combining historical research with artistic craftsmanship. I’m especially drawn to world-building, character-driven design, and the behind-the-scenes magic that gives stories their texture.

This site marks the beginning of my professional journey into prop and set design. I’m excited to keep learning, building, and expanding my skills in the creative industry.

Royal Viking Sword

This sword was designed as part of a character prop study for a powerful Viking woman in a historical fiction setting. The goal was to create a piece that combined authentic Viking-era craftsmanship with symbolic storytelling. The sword features gold accents, amber gems, and engraved Nordic runes, each element chosen to reflect strength, status, and protection. Inspired by real Ulfberht swords and Norse mythology, the design blends history with creative interpretation. Every detail — from the wire-wrapped grip to the carved runes — was researched and handcrafted with intention. This prop not only tells the story of the character who wields it but also highlights the deep connection between identity and material culture.
